Cleaning

Modern firearms need far less cleaning than the internet suggests and far more lubrication than most owners give them. Carbon is mostly cosmetic. A dry bolt carrier or slide rail is what actually causes stoppages.

What genuinely matters: keep the bore free of copper and lead if you care about accuracy, keep rust off anything carried against skin in a Houston summer, and use a bore guide so you are not wearing the crown with a cleaning rod. That last one ruins more accuracy than neglect ever does.

Rimfire is the exception — .22 LR is filthy and lead fouling builds fast, especially in a suppressor. Anything you shoot suppressed comes apart for cleaning more often than you would like.
