Soft Cases

A soft case protects against scratches, weather and prying eyes on the way to the range. It does not protect against impact and it is not a storage solution, and using one as such is how guns rust.

The single most important thing about a soft case is that a gun put away damp will stay damp. Foam and fleece linings hold moisture against steel for days, which on the Gulf Coast is more than enough to start surface rust. Dry the firearm and wipe it with an oiled cloth before the case, and store the gun in a safe rather than in its case.
