Storage is where the decision is about people rather than guns. If there are children in the house, or anyone who should not have access, storage stops being an accessory. A quick-access safe by the bed and a larger safe for the collection solve different problems and most households need both.

Fire ratings are the specification people over-read. Ratings are measured in ideal conditions, and the difference between 30 and 60 minutes matters less than where the safe is bolted and whether it is bolted at all. An unanchored safe walks out of a house on a dolly.

For transport, a hard case with a lock is what most ranges and every airline expect, and it is what the law expects in a vehicle in many states.
