Rests & Bags

A rest removes the shooter from the equation, which is the point. When you are zeroing an optic or testing which ammunition your rifle prefers, your own wobble is noise that hides the answer. A proper front rest and rear bag makes group differences readable.

Rear bags matter more than most people expect: squeezing a rear bag is how you make fine elevation changes without touching the rifle. Fill material decides behaviour — sand is heavy and dead, polymer beads are lighter and livelier, and heavy and dead is what you want. Do not rest the barrel itself on anything solid; support the stock forend instead.
